The Mountain Springs Villa Story

Want to know more about Mountain Springs Villa? Just ask someone who lives here
Mountain Springs Villa opened in 1970s and has grown into a 30-site, resident-owned manufactured home community.

That transition happened faster than most, and we began the move toward controlling our own destiny in 2006. That's when, with the help of Neighbor Works
® Montana and ROC USA®, we formed Mountain Springs Villa Inc. that would, on Dec 29, 2011, purchase and take control of our community.

Now, Mountain Springs Villa is not only a successful business, but also a thriving neighborhood. The process of the cooperative buying the land beneath our homes brought this community closer together. Not only do we know far more of our neighbors than ever before, but we look out for one another, too.  And with no outside landlord to report to, we're the envy of other nearby manufactured home communities.

Our member households elect our board of directors, which works with a property management firm and also helps plan special projects, celebrations, community improvements and more. The board submits a budget every year, and the entire membership votes on it and any changes to the rent before the budget becomes official. Our rent has stabilized since becoming a ROC -- something about which we're not only happy, but also proud. We're running the multi-million dollar business that is our community on our terms, by our rules, for the betterment of ourselves and our neighbors.

Mountain Springs Villa couldn't be better situated. We’re surrounded by the best nature has to offer with  with unlimited outdoor activities including hiking, camping, skiing, golf, and tennis. Red Lodge was named one of the top adventure places by National Geographic. We have events like The Peaks to Prairie triathlon, and the Beartooth Rally. Red Lodge may be small, but everything anyone could ever need is right here. We have shops a grocery store, park, and even a museum.

Since we voted to become a resident-owned community, we have worked hard to improve our community. We've helped our neighbors by rebuilding steps and putting in ramps for community members with physical disabilities. In 2010 our community received a makeover, now our streets are paved, we have underground utilities and got new manufactured homes. Our social committee holds events throughout the year, which include potlucks and barbecues.

Ask anyone who lives in Mountain Springs Villa, and we're sure they'll tell you it's a little slice of heaven.
